Activity 7: Applying chemicals

Assessment

Explain to students in this activity they will learn that chemicals are used to modify soil structure, fertilise grapes and control weeds and insects.

Using Worksheet 7 Visiting vines.
Ask students to:

  • calculate the rate of application of chemicals
  • calculate the costs of applying chemicals at a vineyard
  • identify the single most important variable
  • establish an argument supporting their selection

This is a problem solving task involving identification of the factors affecting the rate of application of chemicals delivered from the spray tank of a tractor.

Students can use a modified 32-16-4-1 structure as an aid to sorting out an approach to this problem.
