Sample Units
Sample units show examples of teaching and learning activities that address selected elements of the standards and are available for each level. Each unit covers multiple domains and reflect the integrated learning approach central to the VELS. The domains in each unit were chosen as they show how the appropriate combinations supports deeper understanding, and more meaningful and engaging contexts for learning.
Each unit provides detailed teaching and learning activities which illustrate selected elements of the standards. Worksheets, templates and assessment guides are provided which can be downloaded and modified to suit particular learning contexts. Suggested assessment activities are linked to the elements of the standards with advice on how students can demonstrate their achievements towards, at and beyond the chosen standard. Further information is provided to support teachers through links to related websites.
The Sample units have their origins in a number of sources, but they all began in schools as ideas and/or engaging and successful units of work developed in response to student needs. They have been further developed and tested in schools by the VCAA in liaison with schools and curriculum writers.
