Information and Communications Technology Assessment Map – Sample at 2.25
Completing a venn diagram
Context
Students were asked to retrieve a Venn diagram template from the network and use this graphic organiser to identify the similarities and differences between two fairytales. Students were required to save the completed file using a name meaningful to them and store it in a designated folder.
This task was part of a larger one which required students to investigate characteristics of fairytales in order to create their own fairytale, which would be portrayed as an animation through using the software tool Claymation. In groups of four, students developed a hand-drawn storyboard containing a simple script of their fairytale, which was then fully developed using word processing software. Sets and characters were built, digital photos were taken, voices recorded and then the photos were ‘stitched’ together to form an animation. The audience for this fairytale were Prep students.
The element of the ICT for visualising thinking Level 3 standard addressed by the task is:
(Students) use ICT tools to list ideas, order them into logical sequences, and identify relationships between them.
Sample
The following work sample, and the related ICT 2.25 progression point examples, illustrate the kinds of responses that students produce as they progress towards the Level 3 standard.

ICT for visualising thinking – 2.25
- Identifies some key ideas, however, the positioning of the text is random, hence, ideas are not logically ordered. An alignment of like items could help further thinking processes.
- Accurately enters some ideas in the ‘common’ segment, however, the use of graphics would improve the ease of reading the information.
- Uses colour to indicate some relationships, for example, hero is in green and the text labels match the colour of the circles (blue and red). No common colour is used to identify the villains (wolf and troll).
