Samples are available for the following tasks:
Ball skills
Context
In two minor games that emphasised ball handling, students were asked to demonstrate their ability to:
- perform proficiently the overhand throw and catch from a stationary position
- move into position to perform proficiently a catch and overhand throw.
Prior to undertaking this assessment task, students participated in a four-week unit which concentrated on the development of ball skills. Students engaged in individual, pair and group activities, including drills and minor ball games that led to skill development.
Students had also developed proficiency in the run, vertical jump, leap and dodge. It was also expected that students had an understanding of the influence of rules and player roles on their own and other students’ skill performance in a game.
The elements of the Movement and physical activity standard addressed by this task are:
(Students) perform a broad range of complex motor skills. They demonstrate a wide variety of motor skills and apply them to basic, sport-specific situations. They … perform coordinated movement sequences that contain a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
