Turning Points: The Anzac Day football match
Context
Students undertook this task as part of the National History Challenge, a research-based competition for students, which gives students a chance to be historians by investigating their community and exploring their own past. The challenge emphasises and rewards quality research, the use of community resources and effective presentation.
Students were asked to research a significant turning point in Australian history. Turning points could be considered in a range of categories including war, sport, Indigenous history, human rights and using the National Archives. Students were provided with a range of print and online sources relating to significant events in Australian history around particular research interests.
Investigations could be presented in a range of forms. Students were able to work in groups to research content and share information but completed the report individually. Students presented a draft and were provided with feedback from the teacher before completing the final report.
