IMAGE DESCRIPTION
There are six sample images, and each image displays a screenshot of a page from the Meerkats Website. At the top of each page, the same series of tabs are displayed. Each tab has a label. The labels are, in order: Home, Appearance, Food, Habitat, Communication, and Breeding. The labels are also underlined to indicate that they are hyperlinks that can be activated by the user (for example: by ‘clicking’ on them using a mouse) to navigate to each page on the website.
The first image shows the ‘Home’ page. The ‘Home’ page is entitled ‘Meerkats’. It shows a map of Africa. The southern area of the map of Africa is shaded. There is a photograph of a meerkat. The meerkat is sitting on a patch of brown dirt and is looking to its right. The text on the page says, ‘The meerkat is an African mammal. It lives in the southern deserts of Africa.’
The second image shows the ‘Appearance’ page. The title of this page is also ‘Appearance’. There is a photograph of a meerkat. The meerkat is sitting up on its two hind legs, with its head slightly tilted to its right. The text on the page says, ‘The meerkat has a long and slender body. It has a thin tail with a black or reddish coloured tip. It uses its tail to balance when it is standing.’
The third image shows the ‘Food’ page. The title of this page is also ‘Food’. There is a photograph of a meerkat. The meerkat is perched on a tree trunk and it is looking to its left. The text on the page says, ‘The meerkat mainly eats insects. It sometimes eats snakes, lizards, spiders and scorpions. Meerkats need to find food every day as their bodies do not store fat.’
The fourth image shows the ‘Habitat’ page. The title of this page is also ‘Habitat’. There is a photograph of a meerkat. The meerkat is sitting in a patch of brown dirt on its hind legs and is looking to its right. The text on the page says, ‘Meerkats dig burrows in desert areas. They live in groups of 20–30members. They work together to survive. One stands as guard while the others look for food.’
The fifth image shows the ‘Communication’ page. The title of this page is also ‘Communication’. There is a photograph of two meerkats. One meerkat has its paws neer the other meerkat’s neck. The meerkats look like they are playing with each other. The text on the page says, ‘Meerkats make a range of different sounds. They may chirp, growl or bark to communicate with other meerkats. They play together. Sometimes they wrestle or chase each other.’
The sixth image shows the ‘Breeding’ page. The title of this page is also ‘Breeding’. There is a photograph of three meerkats. One meerkat is lying on its side, the other meerkats are sitting down. The text on the page says, ‘A young meerkat is called a pup. A female gives birth to a littler of up to four pups. The baby meerkat feeds on the mother’s milk. The whole group works together to look after the pups.’
