English Assessment Map – Sample at Level 1


Button sort

Context

Students were asked to bring buttons to school. Following class discussion on how to describe, compare and sort buttons, they were provided with vocabulary cards which they read as a group. Students then worked with a partner to illustrate and label different ways of sorting a set of buttons matching their illustrations with the relevant vocabulary from the card. A follow-up activity involved writing a simple sentence about their sorting. The activity took place over two 40-minute sessions.
