Which path for me?
Context
This task was part of a unit of work which focuses on broadening students’ horizons when considering a career path. Working in groups, students researched career pathways and a specific job within a particular employment field, using resources such as the Job Guide (Department of Education, Science and Training) and OzJac (Australian Courses and Careers Database). They were then required to individually organise their material and present it for display to the class (for example as a poster or brochure).
Using subject-specific language students were required to present the results of their research and investigation into a specific job, in particular:
- analysing vocational pathways and education and training requirements
- identifying possible career paths and opportunities.
The element of the Economic knowledge and understanding Level 6 standard addressed by the task is:
Students analyse vocational pathways and education and training requirements and identify possible career paths and opportunities.
Sample
The following work sample, and the related Economics 5.5 progression point examples, illustrate the kinds of responses that students produce as they progress towards the Level 6 standard.
