What does the future hold?
Context
This task was part of a unit of work that focused on developing students’ personal financial management skills. Through class discussion and research activities, students investigated budgets as a strategy for supporting decision-making when dealing with money. Students considered what a budget is; how using a budget can help them make decisions about managing personal finances; and the implications of not using a budget.
Using subject-specific language students were required to prepare a report focusing on:
- describing what a budget is
- ways in which a budget supports personal decision-making when dealing with money
- the implications of not using a budget when managing personal finances
- describing how a budget helps individuals become informed consumers.
The element of the Economic knowledge and understanding Level 5 standard addressed by this task is:
Students make informed economic and consumer decisions, demonstrating the development of personal financial literacy.
