I am a consumer
Context
This task was part of a unit of work that introduced students to the concepts of being a consumer, needs and wants, and goods and services. Through group work, with activities such as brainstorming and individual tasks, students developed their understanding of what it is to be a consumer, the differences between goods and services, how to distinguish between needs and wants and how needs and wants may be different for different people.
Using subject-specific language students were required to:
- describe the differences between needs and wants
- differentiate between goods and services by drawing a Venn diagram
- explain why needs and wants may differ for different people
- explain the need to be an informed consumer.

Economic knowledge and understanding – 3.5
- Shows clear understanding of what ‘goods’ and ‘services’ are and the differences between the two, giving examples of items that provide both a good and a service.
- Provides a definition of ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ and gives examples of both.
- Shows understanding that resources are limited in nature but that wants are unlimited.
