Communication Assessment Map - Sample at 3.5
Soccer institute
Students were asked to plan, conduct and evaluate a small business activity to raise funds in aid of an Australian charity. This was part of a middle years project, Supporting Charities of Australia through Enterprise (SCATE) Program, designed to encourage community involvement and initiative for Year 5 and Year 6 students.
Students were expected to work in teams with negotiated individual roles. Teams decided on both a charity and focus for a small business venture and submitted a proposal, with a written and oral component, in order to gain start up funding and approval from the school Proposal and Finance Committee.
Students prepared a poster advertising their proposal and used it to support their interview for funding. They were provided with detailed worksheets, including guidelines and criteria for developing their posters, making an oral presentation and evaluating. This sample includes a range of materials associated with their presentation.
The element of the Presenting Level 4 standard addressed by the task is:
... students summarise and organise ideas and information, logically and clearly in a range of presentations. They identify the features of an effective presentation and adapt elements of their own presentations to reflect them. Using provided criteria, they evaluate the effectiveness of their own and others’ presentations.
