Indigenous leadership
Context
Students were asked to research and produce a biography on an Indigenous leader which included an outline of key achievements and challenges and discussion of particular leadership qualities. This was part of a unit of work on which included achievement of rights in Australia.
Teaching and learning activities associated with this assessment task include:
- brainstorming and discussion of the concept of leadership
- brainstorming examples of contemporary Indigenous leaders
- brainstorming research questions.
Students worked in groups and were to organise and conduct research but were asked to complete an individual presentation or report which could be displayed to the class.
The element of the Civic knowledge and understanding Level 5 standard addressed by this task is:
(Students) identify and discuss the qualities of leadership through historical and contemporary examples.
