Civics and Citizenship Assessment Map - Sample at 2.25

Community and participation

Context

Students were asked to draw a picture that demonstrated their knowledge of a community or school group that works to enhance their lives. They were expected to show people participating for example in a sporting or cultural group and send a clear message about the role of the group, the roles and responsibilities of members of the group, and the extent and nature of the participation. They were also asked to describe a school or community group that enhanced their lives, by completing the statements on a worksheet.

Students were given one to two sessions totalling approximately one hour to complete the task. They could work in groups to develop their ideas but were expected to complete the picture and worksheet individually.

The element of the Community engagement Level 3 standard addressed by this task is:

(Students) describe some of the roles and purposes of groups in the community.
