People in places (Drama)
Context
In People in places students focused on using imagination to create dramatic moments and action about being in a familiar place. Students worked with a partner or in a small group to devise drama based on their experiences, ideas, observations and feelings about the places. They used drama skills to devise a character and worked in a small group to create short narrative works.
Teaching and learning activities associated with this assessment task included creating character/s, devising a short drama and using the language of drama when providing and responding to feedback.

Sample
This work sample, and the related Arts 2.75 progression point examples, illustrate the kind of response that students produce as they progress towards the Level 3 standard.
Students worked in pairs for a short time (about 5 minutes) sharing, combining and developing their ideas. Following this activity they extended and refined their work before presenting their completed drama to the class.

Creating and making - 2.75
- Combine drama ideas to show pushing a supermarket trolley, selecting goods from the shelf and putting the items into the trolley.
- Interweave physical actions and dialogue without being repetitive.
- Show a range of pace, timing, shapes and levels in actions but work requires refinement in the use of drama techniques and conventions.
- Work collaboratively as actors to create a sense of ensemble.
- Use facial expressions to communicate feelings about the items being selected from the shelf.
