Teaching and Learning Support
Support materials for the Victorian Essential Learning Standards will be progressively published throughout 2005 and 2006. The support materials illustrate ways in which teachers can apply the standards in their teaching and learning and assessment programs. Some of the support materials will be based on refined and newly developed programs and practice from Victorian schools, existing published materials and current research.
Sample Units
Sample units which exemplify ways of using the new curriculum to develop teaching and learning activities and illustrate appropriate assessment in relation to specific standards from Levels 1 to 6 will be developed progressively. Seven of these sample units are now available.
Annotated Work Samples
During 2005, the VCAA worked with schools to develop assessment tasks and student annotated work samples. Assessment tasks and assessment criteria drawn from the standards at each of the six levels in the Standards were developed. Assessment tasks focus on domains in the Interdisciplinary and Physical, Personal and Social Learning strands using a range of disciplines as the teaching context. Some of these tasks are based on the sample units developed in 2004 and existing assessment tasks.
Schools trialed the tasks with students across more than one year level, assessing the work against the criteria and participating in moderation exercises with other schools trialing the same tasks. These work samples are currently being annotated and assessment tasks finalised and will be published progressively online.
Curriculum Planning Guidelines
The Curriculum Planning Guidelines provide a range of tools and advice to support schools in the implementation of a curriculum that best meets the needs of their students. The organisation of the site links the initiatives in Flagship Strategy 1: Student Learning: Victorian Essential Learning Standards, Principles of Learning and Teaching and assessment and reporting advice to enable effective implementation at the whole school level. There are also links to the Knowledge Bank to demonstrate school examples.

Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12
The Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12 initiative provides a structure to help teachers focus their professional learning such as building consistent, comprehensive and improved pedagogical approaches within and across schools, focusing teaching to meet the diverse needs of students and strengthening learning communities within and beyond the school.

Assessment and Reporting
Assessment advice identifies practices that improve student learning and assists teachers in planning further curriculum development and delivery. The reporting guidelines outline reporting practices that provide parents with regular, easily understood, information about how their child is progressing and guidance for future learning.
