Assessing Student’s Use of Graphic Organisers

Graphic organisers can be used to assess students’ knowledge and understanding across several domains.

    Thinking Processes

The thinking shown in completing an organiser can be used to assess student achievement against the Thinking Processes standards. To aid teachers in making their judgments, the Concepts and skills charts for Thinking Processes highlight the types of skills and knowledge students are expected to show at each level.  These key concepts and skills are linked to the graphic organiser examples found in this resource. The Approaches to teaching page in the Thinking Processes domain section also contains information about teaching and assessing Thinking Processes.

    Other domains

Graphic organisers can also be used to assess depth of student knowledge and understanding in other domains. For example, a student’s P.O.O.C.H. chart on the sustainability of the world’s resources might demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in The Humanities – Geography and Science.
