Structures
The facilitation of a curriculum program will be enhanced if the leadership and team structures reflect the preferred curriculum delivery model.
Structures that will assist schools in developing an effective whole school approach to curriculum implementation could include:
- organising curriculum responsibilities – Who will oversee curriculum implementation? How will it be monitored?
- developing professional learning teams – What is the purpose of the team? How will the composition of the teams be decided?
- clarifying teaching and assessment responsibilities – How will the newer domains be addressed? Who will teach the newer domains? How will the newer domains be assessed? Who will be responsible for assessing the newer domains?
- developing timetable options – How can the timetable support the curriculum program?
- developing meeting schedules to support professional learning and time for teachers to plan either individually or in teams.
Where an integrated curriculum program operates, planners or two-year scope and sequence charts are used to guide curriculum planning, ensure coverage of the domains and reduce the chance of repetition of teaching and learning activities and/or topics experienced by an individual student.
