Whole School Curriculum Planning
Resource map
This diagram shows the various parts of the resource and their relationship to each other. Each part can be accessed from the resource map or from the menu to the left.

About the resource
The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) were released in 2005 with implementation in schools from 2006. During 2007 and 2008, the VCAA worked with over 25 schools and several education consultants, who also work closely with schools, to document the strategies, processes and structures they used when developing a whole school curriculum plan to implement the VELS. This resource is the result of their work.
Some schools have recorded their particular journeys in implementing the VELS; others have provided examples of templates, team structures, professional learning activities, timetable examples, scope and sequence charts and units of work. Advice based on the learning from these schools has been developed to support others in planning Prep to Year 10 programs.
The resource is designed to support:
- curriculum leaders by providing activities and suggestions for professional development and templates for use at all stages of planning
- classroom and pre-service teachers by providing examples and templates for planning programs and units of work.
It both complements and refers specifically to the Curriculum Planning Guidelines developed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (www.education.vic.gov.au/studentlearning/curriculum/preptoyear10/guidelines/default.htm).
Acknowledgments
The VCAA thanks the schools, teachers and education consultants for their contributions to this resource. For further information see Contributors - Whole School Curriculum Planning Resource.
