Explicit Teaching
If a skill is taught explicitly it:
- is documented in planning
- occurs within the unit of work/learning experience
- is discussed specifically with the students
- is recorded and used to improve student learning or performance
- might be reported to the parent(s).
If a skill is taught implicitly it:
- might or might not be documented in planning
- occurs within the unit of work/learning experience
- is not recorded
- might or might not be used to improve student learning or performance.
Explicit teaching of the skill should occur on multiple occasions (not as a single occurrence) and in different contexts.
