National Curriculum

National curriculum is being developed for all students from Prep to Year 12, starting with English, mathematics, science and history. These areas will be developed and implemented in schools from 2011. A second phase of curriculum development will include languages and geography.

The VELS will continue to provide the framework for the delivery of curriculum programs in Victorian Schools, both now and following the introduction of the national curriculum in the four initial subject areas. Further information will be provided as directions and approaches to the national curriculum are more fully formed. In the meantime, schools will continue to teach and assess all VELS domains and report to parents using the current system until at least the end of 2010.
