Previous Curricula
Prior to the introduction of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards in 2006, the Victorian school curriculum was based on the Curriculum and Standards Framework (CSF). The CSF was first published in 1995. Updates were released during 2000 and 2001 which were known as the Curriculum and Standards Framework II.
Curriculum and Standards Framework
A curriculum embodies the aspirations a community holds for the next generation of learners. When these aspirations are specified as expected outcomes the education standards are transparent for learners, teachers and parents. Victoria’s curriculum and standards framework stated what students were expected to know and be able to do. CSF II was benchmarked nationally and internationally to ensure its standards were challenging and comparable with expectations in like countries.
CSF II was designed to clarify expectations; it created space in the early years for a focus on literacy and numeracy; embedded information and communication technology skills in all key learning areas; integrated civics and citizenship education and national literacy and numeracy benchmarks into the framework and made explicit the pathways from the compulsory years to further education and training.
