The work samples in this section form the Level 6 part of the assessment map for Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Other parts of the assessment map can be accessed by using the menu on the right side of the screen.
The ICT Level 6 standards describe what students should know and be able to do at this level. The following work samples illustrate the kinds of responses that students produce when they are working at the Level 6 standard.
Annotations identify for each sample attributes of the student response that relate to specific elements of the standard.
Context
Students worked in small teams for three consecutive weeks of each term on an open-learning project. The open-learning project was timetabled across all core subject classes for the three weeks. Students devised their own research questions related to a central theme, conducted an inquiry and gave a concluding performance. The projects were designed to encourage students to demonstrate initiative and innovation.
Part of the assessment was to post to a group blog. Entries were made throughout the project and they served a purpose of communicating individual progress to the other team members and to their teachers.
Students were provided with the website www.blogger.com and their blogs were loaded on to the web. As part of their instruction, students were given advice about the accepted protocols when posting to the web. The active audience for their blog was their classmates, although students understood that they realised that there may be an audience outside their classroom reading their posts. They were not given instruction about how to adapt the e-blogger template to meet their requirements. Independently students made decisions about the layout and manipulation of the set template.

Context
Students were asked to use an ICT communication tool that would enable them to record their progress in developing a model satellite and to receive feedback from their peers on their designs and finished models. The students designed and built the satellites as part of a Science unit.
