Sample at Level 4 – Cultural snapshot

Context

Students were introduced to the concept of the Asian region and an overview of the geography of the region. The assessment task required students to develop a ‘cultural snapshot’ providing an overview of daily life in an Asian society. They were to describe at least three aspects of daily life, such as food, clothing, education, housing, religious customs, education, music, dance or language as well as the roles of men, women and children. The snapshot could be presented using a data show presentation of four to six slides, accompanied by a hard copy commentary of 200-300 words. Alternatively students could produce a website of four to six screens, each containing approximately 50 words written by the student and one graphic element. Students were given several sessions totalling five hours to complete the task. They could work in groups to research content and share information but completed the presentation or website individually.
