The Arts Level 2

Introduction

The work samples in this section form the Level 2 part of the assessment map for The Arts. Other parts of the assessment map can be accessed by using the menu on the right side of the screen.

The Level 2 Arts standard describes what students should know and be able to do at this level. The following work samples illustrate the kinds of responses that students produce when they are working at the Level 2 standard.

Annotations identify for each sample attributes of the student response that relate to specific elements of the standard.

Sample at Level 2 – Twelve Apostles

Context

This work sample was derived from a classroom unit of work focusing on Australian icons and landmarks. In the Art room, students observed, discussed and interpreted a range of images of the Twelve Apostles. The images showed this landmark at different times of the day and night. Students then selected one of the images that appealed to them and created their own interpretation of it using oil pastels. Before beginning this task, students discussed compositional elements they might include in their work and ways of using oil pastels, such as blending to create movement and effects like those seen on the cliff face. Students were given about two and a half hours over two sessions to complete this task.
