Annotated Work Samples
This resource is being progressively published and will contain a collection of annotated work samples that illustrate progress at various levels across the domains. These work samples will be drawn from student responses to assessment tasks implemented in Victorian schools. Some of these will be included on assessment maps which illustrate progress or growth along the continuum of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards from Levels 1–6. Student work samples are available in the Assesment Maps.
Annotated work samples are designed to illustrate achievement of specific elements of the standards and assist teachers to make judgments about student achievement. They help answer the question: 'What does student work at this standard look like?' The samples are not intended to show the full range of student achievement or achievement of all outcomes at a particular level. Teachers can use the work samples as a reference when making their on-balance judgments about students' work collected over an extended period.
There are a number of ways that teachers might use annotated work samples:
- as a reference for refining judgments about pieces of student work
- as a reference to develop their own assessment tasks and collections of student work samples
- to communicate with students and enable them to monitor their own progress
- in conversation with parents to show what is expected of their child at each level and
- as a basis for professional development and moderation activities at school level or in broader forums.
